APRIL PEACE ARCH NEWS ARTICLE

Fundraising success in a challenging year
Submitted by Kyle McKay

The Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary has had quite a challenging year when it comes to fundraising efforts.
Our tried and true events were put on hold but this dedicated group came together and held a couple of very successful events.
The Purdy’s chocolate sale we held before Christmas did very well, thanks to friends, family and neighbours of our members,
Our Bunny Hop was a virtual event, with participants walking, running and biking on their own time during a two day period. Thanks to the participants and our donors this event turned out so well that plans are already underway to make this an annual event. Watch for us next Easter.

The Auxiliary has been fortunate to welcome a new group to our Society. The Phoenix Group has 27 active and energetic members who are eager to begin their volunteer roles.

The Superfluity Thrift Shop located at 15163 Prospect Avenue has remained open for business at reduced
hours, in compliance with COVID19 protocols.
Business hours are Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 4 pm.
Donations of gently used items are gratefully accepted. Adult clothing, jewelry, home décor, small tools and
collectibles can be taken to the back door Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.

Two of our Groups are currently raising funds at the Superfluity Shop. The Sunset Group is selling handmade
dishcloths and scrubbies. These have been knitted and crocheted by their own members.
The Papillons Group is selling kitchen hand towels. These are available in an assortment of fabrics and colours
to accent any kitchen décor.
All of these would make lovely gifts for mom, or to freshen up your own kitchen as you tackle your spring
cleaning.

While you’re “staying home” this May long weekend, why not take some time and browse through the Su-
perfluity. The Shop is offering 25% off your entire purchase over a two day period only, on May 21 and 22.

The Kay Hogg Goodwill Group will once again offer the Neufeld Farms Meat Sale starting May 25.
Further details will be provided on our website as the day approaches. Check us out at www.pahas.ca
Did you know we also have a Facebook Page? You can find us at Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary.

AUXILIARY NOTES: Auxiliary still depends on community support

Our Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary is doing what we can during this Public Health emergency.

The COVID 19 out break has forced us along with many other community organizations to cancel many of our fundraising activities.

Our Superfluity thrift shop is still open for donations. Please call our manager Sandy at 604-825-2240 prior to donating so that staff can expect you. When we are able to reopen we will need these items to re-stock our shelves.

We could not raise the money that we do without the generous support of the whole community – that means everyone, the shoppers who come in weekly looking for treasures at the shop, the people who generously donate the fantastic items that we sell and the selfless volunteers who give so much of their time week after week working at the Superfluity thrift shop.

The Gift shop at the hospital is currently closed. It will re open as soon as possible. A big thanks to all of the people who purchase things from our shop and to all of the amazing volunteers who make sure that it is always stocked with thoughtful items for everyone. We could not continue to purchase much – needed equipment for Peace Arch Hospital without the support of the whole
community.

We need to look after each other in these uncertain times and stay in touch with people. A friendly phone call goes a long way to help people feel included. If you have a friend or neighbour who may live alone please take time to call them as they may feel isolated.

We will keep people informed as to when we are able to re-open the Superfluity Shop and the Gift Shop. We look forward to seeing all of our loyal customers in the near future.

As our Dr. Bonnie Henry our Provincial health officer says be calm and be kind.
